The movie was free on Hulu, with a few commercials, so I watched it tonight on my laptop with the full story fresh in my memory. I can't decide if Rachel was really trying to poison her cousin Philip or not, or if she had poisoned her husband Ambrose who supposedly died of a brain tumor. The story is ready for a remake, because the acting style of the 1952 film version is over the top, even if Richard Burton was nominated for best supporting actor (for a role that was really a best actor part) in the film. He completely overacts and the dialog is over-simplified and melodramatic. I want to see this remade with a 30-something actress like Catherine Zeta-Jones or even (a stretch) Sandra Bullock (she is presently 36, the same age as Rachel is described in the book and the age Olivia de Haviland was when she played Rachel!). But Nicole Kidman in a black wig would probably be cast, with a "cousin" Philip Ashley who will probably be Robert Pattinson (at 11 years younger than Nicole Kidman, that is a good age difference), Still, the story is so good that their casting might not be so bad!!! I would LOVE to be able to design the costumes!!!!
